The TomTom One GPS Navigation System is a entry level GPS navigation system, but if you look a little deeper you will see how great this navigation system really is. It is an almost pocket size GPS unit yet has a 3.5 inch display and can show 64,000 colors. The display is very bright and does not wash out in the sunshine. It does not switch automatically from day to night but that can be a bonus for many people who do not like looking at a darker screen at night. The mount is attached with a suction cup and only has one moving part, the ball and socket joint. It still is easy to rotate so you can see it from any angle though. The unit itself is 3.8 inches in width, weights about 6 ounces and is an inch thick.
The TomTom One GPS Navigation System is easy to set up and program. You simple input the address, city and/or zip code. If you are not sure of the exact address, it will route to a town or specific zip code. Programming it to navigating to a point of interest is easy also. You can add points of interest to an already programmed route or program it to just go to the point of interest. If you need to set several destinations on a route there is an itinerary planning system. You can create a list of stops you would like to make on the way to your destinations and incorporate everything into one route. A really nice point about the navigation system is that you can program it before your leave by using its advanced planning feature. It allows you to program in a starting point which is a nice option.
The TomTom One GPS Navigation System is a very good basic system. It may not have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive models but it will get you where you want to go. There are several displays on the monitor that show you the distance remaining in the trip and time it will take to get there. The one place this model really surpasses many others is in that there are many types of "avoidances" you can set. You can avoid roadblocks, calculate alternate routes or avoid a certain part of a route. This model is a great buy at this price and has many bells and whistles of higher priced models.
