What they offer up, however, demonstrates immediately that this is a company that knows navigation inside and out. Navigon focuses features that directly empower navigation and on sleek form factors.

Customer Reviews

They should now be called NaviGONE.

Review Date: June 2, 2009
Reviewer: L. Wheeler,
I bought my Navigon GPS (7200T) because it had the most features for the lowest price. That still holds true. Very nice unit- attractive and works well, too. Recently, I wanted to update the maps, but there was no Freshmaps Activation card in the box from Amazon. You need the code on that card to get updates. So, I emailed Navigon support for assistance. They sent the following:

'Thank you for your inquiry. Accessories, map material and content are not available in North America through NAVIGON. Unfortunately we don't have information concerning the availability of these products at other major retail shops.'

As has been noted in the posted comments, and which I discovered too late, Navigon is pulling out of the North America market. Beware of this major change, and buy accordingly. They should now be called NaviGONE.

For starters, the Navigon GPS System includes many accessories. There is a USB cable, software installation CD, a quick setup poster, an AC power cable and of course the device itself. Many manufacturers do not include an AC power cable so it is a nice little extra. This GPS system does have a larger screen size than most, 4.3 inches, and is bordered by a black plastic frame. There is also a slot for a 2 GB SD card. The display is nice and bright for viewing during the day and the night mode reduces the level of brightness so it is not annoying.

The place the Navigon GPS System really surpasses all others is the on-screen graphics and the ease with which it can be programmed. It also has several options that can be selected to show you think like street names, speed, compass, length of trip, arrival time. Programming this GPS is like most others and based by entering either a town and state or zip code followed by a street name. It also, like many others, allows you to search for points of interest and lets you choose them based on many criteria even down to the fact of whether or not they have public bathrooms or public phones.

The Navigon GPS System has more features than can really be listed here. It has a built in traffic receiver and external antenna to get traffic reports that could slow your trip. It has voice recognition that allows you to operate the system without touching it. After saving a location as a favorite your can record yourself saying it and from then on it will recognize that voice command. It, of course, offers multiple destination routing and allows you to save these routes for use later. Many people will also appreciate the logbook feature that is comes with. It is great to keep detailed logs of business trips, miles traveled during it, when I did it. It will even store the data in an Excel spreadsheet right on the unit.
