Garmin Nuvi GPS Review
Just the thought of having a navigating companion that can fit in almost any pocket is a now age dream come true. The Garmin Nuvi GPS system is not just a pocket size GPS navigator; it’s a personal traveling assistant, as well as a new age travel entertainment system. The high-performance Garmin Nuvi is about the size of a deck of playing cards, measuring 3.8 x 2.0 x 0.8 inches and it only weighs 5.1 ounces. The Nuvi has a strong receiver and tons of friendly travel features, like voice-guided, turn-by turn directions, heading, speed and ETA information, 2D and 3D map views with a zoom feature, and the tap a point on the map feature, which creates a route from your current position.
The Garmin Nuvi GPS has a bright 3.5-inch, 320 x 240 resolution color touch screen, framed by a silver bezel. The screen has five backlight timer settings and is very readable during the day. One of the main attractions of the Nuvi is the user-friendly menu and its responsive touch screen. The main screen has three selections: Where To, Travel Kit and View Map. All the Nuvi travel functions are done through touch. The only function button on the Nuvi is the power switch. All commands are entered using the touch screen, but the power button can be used as a shortcut to jump from screen to screen. The volume controls are on a setting page and can be easily adjusted by touching the screen.
On the right side of the Nuvi is a USB port, a SD card slot and a headphone jack. There’s a pop-up antenna that folds into the back of the unit above the grill and internal speaker. The Garmin Nuvi GPS has 2GB of internal memory. About 1GB of memory is dedicated to detailed maps of North America and user interface. The additional 1GB of storage can be used for Audible Book files, music, and digital photos. Your PC recognizes the Nuvi when connected to a USB port, so files can be dragged and dropped into folders. The Nuvi comes with a USB cable, a 12-volt power adapter, and a small carrying case.
